TOM PAPPALARDO Grafiker, Literaturist,
Keyframer, Sequentialist, Talker, Jerk

Born and raised in the city of Haverhill, Massachusetts (also home of 'shock-rocker' John Greenleaf Zombie). Commuted to MassArt for awhile - majored in sitting in the cafeteria. Worked some god-awful chain store retail. Moved to western Massachusetts, owned a cool car for awhile, grew particularly fond of sentence fragments: decided to stay.

I've been graphically designing, illustrating, and writing since the early '90s. I am always knee-deep working on either client projects or my own. At various times over the last couple of decades I have played the role of graphic designer, illustrator, cartoonist, art director, audio mixer, foley artist, copy editor, Powerpoint creator, writer, layout dude, web designer, web programmer, voiceover artist, comic book publisher, music editor, author, radio personality, and animator. You know that phrase "Jack of all trades, master of none"? Well I'm over here jackin' it, people! Wait, maybe that came out wrong...

Sort of worth mentioning: In 1995, I received a Xeric Foundation grant with Matt Smith for Alec Dear, which was later published by Caliber Comics. I was the editor of the MassArt comic anthology, and I have self-published two collections of my comic work, Famous Fighters (again with Matt Smith, 2006) and Failure, Incompetence (2005). I have been doing print, radio, and television ads for Turn It Up CDs for over 10 years. I published a comic strip, Whiskey! Tango! Foxtrot! in The Valley Advocate for two years. I am in the band The No-Shadow Kick, which never plays anymore, yet somehow still rocks. I painted a really big mural in Easthampton, Massachusetts (2008) and made a coffeemug design for WFCR (2007). I have had art published in the collections Panda Meat Source Book 1 (Last Gasp, 2005), Art of Modern Rock (Chronicle Books, 2004) and Naïve: Modernism and Folklore in Contemporary Graphic Design (Gestalten, 2009). I have had artwork featured in exhibitions in Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Iceland, and the Museum of Design in Atlanta, Georgia. I have a monthly radio segment on WHMP in Northampton, Mass. I've had comics published in lots of zines you've never heard of. I am writing & drawing an illustrated novel called Broken Lines, which you've probably never heard of, either.
